Digital traceability of the entire fruit and vegetable chain has been implemented in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei
【2024-07-05】

In the midsummer, farmers are busy picking bright red tomatoes and fresh peppers at the fruit and vegetable planting base of the Jizhou Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park in Hebei Province. These fruits are not only attractive in appearance, but also contain high-tech guarantees - each product is equipped with a unique QR code, and consumers can trace every production, circulation and transportation link of these fruits "from a seed to a fruit" by scanning it with their mobile phones.

In recent years, Hebei Province and Beijing have jointly promoted the "Fruits and Vegetables into Beijing" campaign. Relying on this full-chain digital traceability system, the Hebei Jizhou Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park has comprehensively improved the quality and safety of fruits and vegetables, and allowed more high-quality agricultural products from "Beijing's Southern Vegetable Gardens" to go directly to consumers' tables. The positive cycle of "the higher the quality - the more satisfied consumers - the higher the farmers' income - improved production - providing more high-quality agricultural products" is accelerating.

Protecting "food safety"

Agricultural product traceability has always played an important role in ensuring food safety and building product brands. It can not only help discover and control food safety issues and improve food safety assurance levels by tracking the entire process of food from raw materials to production, processing, transportation, and sales, but also help improve product quality and brand image, increase product added value, and promote agricultural industry upgrading and development. However, most current agricultural product traceability systems can only trace origin and logistics, and cannot meet the needs of production environment monitoring, production process monitoring, agricultural product processing monitoring, etc., and are also lacking in traceability for wholesale and retail links of agricultural products.

In Hebei Jizhou Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, JD Agricultural Technology has realized refined traceability management of the entire chain of agricultural products by relying on the full-chain digital traceability platform developed by JD Agricultural Technology, using technologies such as the Internet of Things, GIS positioning, and blockchain: in the links of planting, supervision, processing, logistics, production, quality inspection, and sales, all information has been efficiently managed digitally. Each batch of fruits and vegetables has detailed planting records, growth environment data, processing process information, etc. Consumers only need to scan the traceability code on the product to fully understand it. In addition to the traceability function, the platform also has visual configuration capabilities, which means that consumers can see the current status of the planting bases of the fruits and vegetables they purchased in real time by scanning the code.

According to the relevant person in charge of JD Agricultural Technology, the traditional fruit and vegetable supply chain has problems such as opaque information and complicated links, which leads to low efficiency and high costs. The full-chain digital traceability platform realizes the informatization and automation of supply chain management through digital means, reduces human errors and links, and improves overall operational efficiency. At the same time, the data analysis function on the platform can also help producers better understand market demand and consumer preferences, so as to adjust production plans and sales strategies, further reduce costs and increase profits.

Industry insiders believe that the biggest feature of the traceability platform lies in the authenticity and credibility of its data. All data comes from real-time collection and monitoring during the production process, and is stored using blockchain technology to ensure the authenticity and immutability of the data. In addition, the platform also provides marketing code and anti-counterfeiting code functions to meet the pre-sales marketing and anti-counterfeiting needs of enterprises. Consumers can also learn about the true information of agricultural products by scanning the traceability code.

Assisting agricultural modernization

Hebei is an important supplier of Beijing's "vegetable basket" products, and its main products have a market share of more than 40% in Beijing. Under the grand strategy of coordinated agricultural development in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, the full-chain digital traceability platform is becoming a key link in the modernization of Hebei's fruit and vegetable industry.

In order to accelerate the construction of a modern agricultural powerhouse, this year's Hengshui Municipal Government Work Report proposed to connect the "Hebei Clean Vegetables" brand strategy and implement the "Six-in" action of high-quality agricultural products (into the market, supermarkets, communities, restaurants, canteens, and dining tables), and strive to increase the market share of vegetables in the capital to 8%. Jizhou District, with its unique geographical location and resource advantages, actively created a high-quality fruit and vegetable industry demonstration zone and made every effort to build a "Beijing South Vegetable Garden".

Accelerating the creation of a high-quality fruit and vegetable industry requires the joint efforts of multiple links. Lao Sang is responsible for the planting of tomatoes in the Jizhou Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park. He has been planting fruits and vegetables for 35 years. Many people currently think that tomatoes have lost their previous taste. Lao Sang told reporters that the taste and flavor of fruits and vegetables are closely related to the planting process. As an "old farmer", he can tell whether a tomato is a ripening product just by looking at its appearance. And when his experience is combined with the data of the full-chain digital traceability platform, the park has carried out more refined control over each link of tomato planting. The previous "relying on the weather for a living" has become "looking at the numbers to speak". Lao Sang said, "I am confident that tomatoes will have the taste of everyone's childhood."

Liu Xiaochen, head of Jizhou Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park, believes that full-chain digitalization can not only greatly enhance consumers' trust in fruit and vegetable products, but also bring them more market opportunities and competitive advantages. She gave an example, saying that supermarkets and agricultural wholesale markets are currently the main purchasers, and the purchase volume has also increased steadily after using full-chain traceability, "because every batch of vegetables we send out has a traceability code, which makes supermarkets and consumers feel at ease."

She took out her mobile phone and showed it to the reporter, saying: "The park has realized intelligent management. Through the mobile phone APP, you can view the temperature, humidity, soil pH value, EC value and other data in the greenhouse in real time, control the insulation quilt and air vent switch, and carry out integrated water and fertilizer management." Consumers can easily obtain this information by scanning the product QR code. "We hope to expand sales channels, develop new varieties and new technologies, and launch more high-quality fruit and vegetable products that meet consumer needs."

From "selecting good seeds, raising good seedlings, building good sheds, and growing good vegetables" to selling good fruits, guiding good farmers, and tracing the source. Liu Xiaochen said that relying on JD's full-chain digital traceability platform, Jizhou's modern "vegetable garden" system of production + processing + sales + traceability is accelerating. It is reported that due to the implementation of this traceability platform and the upward movement on the JD platform, the sales volume of fruits and vegetables in the park has increased by 30% compared with before the implementation, driving a 10% increase in sales.

At present, the fruit and vegetable planting area in Jizhou has reached 53,500 mu, with more than 20 main fruit and vegetable varieties and an annual output of 122,000 tons of fruit and vegetables. Wang Shunhua, deputy district head of Jizhou District, said that this will be the basis for the formation of a replicable and popularizable digital agricultural development model, driving the standardization and digitalization of agricultural products in Jizhou, opening up Internet sales channels, further enhancing the market competitiveness of Jizhou's agricultural products, and creating a model for rural revitalization in the district.
